The Garden of Strange Desires
an in-person sky+rose event
Hi Friends,
I am excited to share that sky+rose will have its first in-person day of retreat practice in Portland Oregon on Feb 1. Jogen and I created sky+rose as a community space where we blend the practices of deep stillness and inquiry from the Zen Buddhist tradition, with the practices of parts work, creative and somatic expression to help us explore our wholeness as human and spiritual beings.
The day of retreat we aim at exploring our gardens of desire. We will explore it in five distinct ways through the practices of meditation, parts work and somatic+creative expression.
Wandering—allowing ourselves to entering the space of not-knowing, openness, wonderment, the fertile potential of our inner and outer life
Dreaming—awakening the desires that live in us, making space for our wants and longings, allowing what is inchoate to find shape and voice
Destroying—putting to rest the desires in us that are no longer alive, that have come to completion or are ready to be released, composted, turned over to give life to something new
Tending—investigating and exploring the next steps that may be needed to give life to our desires, to really let them flourish in our lives
Feasting—celebrating the fruits of our lives, the places we have made effort, all that is blooming
This is a practice of deeply allowing what is hidden in us to be seen and witnessed, an opportunity to explore the energies we contain with the support of others and a time to embody release, possibility and listen to what is stirring in our depths.

The strange garden of desire: wandering, dreaming, feasting, tending, destroying.
In this daylong workshop each person will explore their singular Strange Garden of Desires, taking a fresh look at what loves, longings, obsessions and obligations live within us.
Through parts work, meditation, and practices of somatic and creative expression we will engage our gardens in five distinct ways: wandering, dreaming, tending, feasting and destroying.
You might reclaim what you love and discard the detritus of someone else’s dreams. You could step over a boundary that shuts out vitality truly belonging to you. Laughter at your predicament or getting your own cosmic joke are possibilities. At the very least, you will engage a breadth of your own energetic palette and be remembered of your unkempt wholeness.
Join us for a full day of exploration. We will break for lunch, but we ask you to stay for the entire event.
